Hebrewbooks.org was founded in order to preserve old American Hebrew books that are out of print and/or circulation. Many American Rabbis wrote seforim (Hebrew books) in the early part of the 20th century. They have long since passed away and in many instances so has their holy work.

Currently our mission has expanded to include all Torah Seforim ever printed. At Hebrewbooks.org you will be able to view and print the entire Sefer online.

If you were to ask any Rabbi who authored a sefer, what his one wish would be, his answer would surely be, "I want people to learn my sefer, even after my passing". Indeed, we find many Rabbis writing in their introductions: " I wrote this sefer and hope it will be studied even after my death, in order that my lips may move in my grave." When you quote these seforim, please be sure to mention the Rabbi's name. In this way the author's "lips will move in his grave". In this manner you will bring life to the memory of the author. Our Rabbis of blessed memory teach us that "He who quotes a saying in the name of its author, hastens the redemption of the world". They cite the Book of Esther in support of this: "Queen Esther reported the plot to kill king Achashverosh in the name of Mordechai".

HebrewBooks.org is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization. Our goal is to bring to life the many Seforim that were written and unfortunately forgotten, and to make all Torah Publications free and ubiquitous.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Computerized Collection of 11,000 Rare Hebrew Books for Free download, online at www.hebrewbooks.org
Brooklyn, NY. Dec 29th, 2006

The Society for the Preservation of Hebrew Books has announced a milestone in its efforts to save a vast treasury of rare Jewish scholarship. Over the past seven years, the Society has scanned more than 11,000 volumes of rare and out of print works which were in danger of being lost, destroyed or simply disintegrating due to the passage of time. These scanned files make up the new Friedberg and Ryzman edition of the collection, which is available at their website: www.hebrewbooks.org Each of the 11,000 books can be viewed as a Portable Document File (PDF). This format ensures that the books are preserved and available in their original state.
The collection began with 2000 works of American Authors of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. These books offer a fascinating glimpse of the issues facing American Jews during that era. Recent additions have expanded the scope of the collection to include the broad range of Jewish tradition, law and custom, including commentaries, legal analysis and rabbinic journals published in Hebrew, English and Yiddish, by Jewish scholars all over the world.
The Society has also made the entire collection available on a single high capacity external computer hard disk.

All 11,000 volumes are available individually on the web site of The Society for the Preservation of Hebrew Books at www.hebrewbooks.org for free download.
